Four Strong Winds
by Ian Tyson
Return to Liner Notes

Four strong winds that blow slowly
Seven seas that run high
All these things that dont change come what may
Now our good times are all gone
And Im bound for moving on
Ill look for you if Im ever back this way

Guess Ill go out to alberta
Weathers good there in the fall
Got some friends that I can go to workin for
Still I wish youd change your mind
If I asked you one more time
But weve been thru that a hundred times or more

Four strong winds that blow lonely
Seven seas that run high
All these things that dont change come what may
Now our good times are all gone
And Im bound for movin on
Ill look for you if Im ever back this way

If I get there before the snow flies
And if things are going good
You could meet me if I send you down the fare
But by then it would be winter
Nothing much for you to do
And the wind sure blows cold way out there

Four strong winds that blow slowly
Seven seas that run high
All these things that dont change come what may
Now our good times are all gone
And Im bound for movin on

Ill look for you if Im ever back this way
Yes, Ill look for you if Im ever back this way

Notes:

Cynthia Peterson – lead vocals
Alan Klein – vocal harmonies, guitar
Dave Lyman – vocal harmonies, guitar
Chuck Cole – vocal harmonies, mandolin
Wes Peterson – harmonica

Dave: This was a song that personally I was not excited about but the very first time we sang it the harmonies between the three of us were so tight that it raised goose bumps. We love doing the last chorus acappella. It puts us out there and gives us a chance to continue to tighten up.

Wes: Since first hearing Neil Young cover it, I've always loved this song.  It's been covered by everybody that's anybody; Johnny Cash and John Denver are two to come to mind, and it's not hard to understand why. It has a beautiful melody, and speaks to a painful, personal longing anybody can understand. This is one song where I try to keep the harp "out of the way" of the beautiful harmonies of Cynthia, Dave, Alan and Chuck.

News:

2018 is another good year for Vintage Fare and, so far, we've played some fun gigs, with more to come.

We also began performing at Bella Bru in Carmichael, a great coffee shop & restaurant that includes the Luna Lounge. We're generally there the first saturday of each month.

Check our calendar for upcoming events.
